Nadia Elena Comaneci

It was at the Montreal Olympic Games 1976 that she achieved one of the most memorable moment in the history of sports - the score of the very first perfect 10 for the asymmetrical bar. She went on to achieve another perfect 10 which made her the youngest Olympic overall gold medalist who was just fourteen years of age. The accomplishment of Nadia Comaneci was not only to get international attention, but she also helped put Romania onto the map. The sports icon came into the limelight after she scored an impossible number of points, thereby making her a celebrity and promoting the sport of gymnastics across all over the world. This changed the perception of female gymnasts. The effect of her performances in the Olympics was so profound that her toe step (release) and her step toe are named for her in the uneven bars event. Apart from the Olympics she was also a star during the World Championships and European Championships. Her performances made her one of the top gymnasts to ever compete.
