The actress began acting and dancing professionally around the middle of the 1990s, with Boulder Dinner Theatre, and later The Country Dinner Playhouse. Then in Minnesota in a small local theater, she was cast as a character in the mock documentary about beauty contests called Drop Dead Gorgeous. Following her successful screen debut, in which she played an annoying but pleasant contestant, Janet moved into Los Angeles where she began a professional acting career.
